In its day, when Image Sciences owned document publishing in the Insurance industry in the ’80s, it was hard to find an Insurance company not using DocuMerge. Well, a couple of decades later, from Image Sciences to Docucorp to Skywire to Oracle, DocuMerge is still out there but it’s supported life is now nearing its end.

Documerge for Windows and DocuMerge for AIX have been officially sunsetted.  Time is now running out for DocuMerge for the Mainframe.

Why not stay with DocuMerge?

We hear that question all of the time.  DocuMerge is a legacy publishing engine and the Mainframe version is rock solid.  It does not have very many bells and whistles, but it gets the basic job done.

The problem you are going to have is support and compatibility with upgrades to your operating system, hardware and current environment.  If you can afford to have your application potentially down for an extended period of time, your risk is low with keeping your DocuMerge application.

For most companies, that answer is NO.

DocuMerge also requires third-party products for forms creation and maintenance.  These products are very old, antiquated and have also been sunsetted or no longer supported.  Whether you are using Elixir, DocuWord, Print & Tag Commander or some other product to maintain your forms, you are currently experiencing the PAIN of maintaining a legacy application like DocuMerge.
